Dispute a card transaction
Last updated 5 days ago
Summary
Use this guide when a card charge looks unauthorized, incorrect, or otherwise problematic and may need to be disputed.
When a dispute may be appropriate
- You do not recognize the transaction
- The merchant charged the wrong amount
- The charge was duplicated
- The goods or services were not delivered as expected
- The issue could not be resolved directly with the merchant
Before you submit a dispute
Gather:
- The transaction amount
- The transaction date
- The merchant name
- Any receipts, invoices, or supporting records
- Any notes explaining why the charge is incorrect or unauthorized
